African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is GDN's regional network partner for Sub-Saharan Africa. AERC aims to strengthen local capacity for economic policy research in Sub-Saharan Africa. The AERC's activities are managed by a Secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya. AERC also works with GDN in managing and producing the Africa regional window on the GDN website. AERC's activities include: Research: AERC provides research grants to conduct research on a limited number of pertinent themes, such as poverty, income distribution and labour markets.
Training: AERC's training programme aims to increase the pool of economic researchers in Sub-Saharan African by supporting graduate and post-graduate study in economics. Publications: To encourage the dissemination of research relevant to the region, AERC publishes a series of reports, including a Working Papers series and a Special Paper series. Global Research Projects: AERC has been involved in the GDN Global Research Project on
"Explaining Growth". GDN Annual Conferences: AERC representatives participate in GDN's Annual Conferences.
