Kenya Demographic Dividend Roadmap June 2017

In recent years, the demographic dividend, which is defined as the temporary opportunity to achieve rapid socio-economic development occasioned by a decline in fertility levels and strategic investments in key sectors, has been fronted as a solution to the myriad of problems being experienced by developing countries. This is drawn from the experience of the “Asian Tigers” and the newly industrialized countries in Asia that have successfully achieved high levels of income and a much better quality of life for its citizens.

Demographic dividend (DD) is the accelerated economic growth that may result from a rapid decline in a country’s fertility and mortality levels and subsequent change in the population age structure. It is occasioned by strategic investments in key sectors including education, health, economic and Governance. In recent years, the demographic dividend has been fronted as a solution to the myriad of problems being experienced by developing countries. The devolved system of government in Kenya presents an opportunity to accelerate the realization of demographic dividend.

Kenya was among the 179 countries that signed on the 1994 International Conference on Population and  Development Programme of Action (ICPD PoA). Kenya Community Health Strategy 2020-25

The Republic of Kenya covers approximately 580,367 square kilometres. It is located in East Africa where it borders South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, Uganda to the west, and Tanzania to the south with the Indian Ocean on its south eastern coastal line (Figure 1). Kenya is administratively divided into 47 devolved County Governments led by a Governor and one National Government led by the President making a total of 48 Governments.

Kenya Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries Strategic Plan 2018-2022

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Co-operatives was established vide Executive Order No. 1 of 2020 dated 14th January 2020. The Executive Order transferred the State Department for Co-operatives from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Co-operatives to the current Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives. The Ministry has 37 Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) and ten training institutions under its purview.
